Do you know how I know this is going to be some good POTA? Because it starts off with “There is no such thing as a happy ending. Utopia is a lie.” If you’re going to do something in the POTA universe — movies, comics, novels, video games, whatever — you have to understand the way that universe works. And the way that universe works is that, in addition to Apes always congratulating themselves for being superior just before acting like a bunch of lobotomized lunatics — there is no such thing as a happy ending.

So, we’ve got a good start. This takes place much earlier than the time frame of the original movie. Humans can still talk. This particular series has been following the devolution of relations between apes and humans to the point of outright warfare.
Just by way of recap: Sully is the human leader, and she is out and about, digging up an army and generally causing trouble for apes. Apes, meanwhile, are fighting between two factions: those who support Alaya (who has now been deposed and is sitting around waiting to see if they’ll execute her) and Nerise, who did the deposing. Also, it’s all out warfare between humans and apes.
Of course, if you’ve been following along, you know that Nerise is being controlled by one of those mind controlling humans who think they’ve finally gotten that religion thing right. He kills her, leaving the apes without a leader, and (according to his plan) giving the humans a chance to rule the world for a while.
He communicates telepathically to the other human of his order who is waiting with Sully’s army outside Ape City, informing Sully that is time to attack: the apes are without a leader. Sully’s son Julian (who had also been raised by Alaya before all the chaos started) is left behind with a nanny, but not before a telepathic human communicates with him… telepathically. So, now we know he is telepathic, in addition to being mute. The telepaths take him, along with their little nuclear warhead that they worship, towards Ape City, where they easily get past the guards with their mind tricks.
Meanwhile, two weeks ago, a giant flotilla was about to land on the shore of the Atlantic. Khan, the leader of the flotilla, is impressed by his duplicitous plan to betray Sully, take over Ape City for himself, and force humans and apes to live together peacefully (under his benevolent dictatorship, of course). His army is now about to march on Ape City.
So, to sum it all up, we have about five plotting factions getting ready to clash. This is good POTA after all!
