Russ Lane grew up with The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books, and after Peter Jackson’s movie trilogy he was inspired to make a model of the hobbit home as seen in the films. But it wasn’t until a recent back injury that he was able to devote the time necessary — two months — and, in fact, working on the model aided in his recovery.
The hill was made from plaster of Paris mixed with finely shredded paper. The greenery is made up of model train scenery and pieces from Russ’s “never throw anything away” box. The front of the house, stone wall, steps, flower pots, bowl, bucket, and paving were all carved from DAS air-drying clay. Matchsticks and wool were used for the fence, popsicle sticks and matchsticks for the bench and stools, and matchsticks for the gate, all finished with acrylic paints.
The slideshow video below showcases all the different angles and details of the model:
Thank you to Russ for sharing his creation with Fandomania!
Simply beautiful! What a true masterpiece!
