Since I started playing World of Warcraft about a year or two ago, I’ve noticed one thing: the scenery is amazing. Every zone and area in the game has unique look and feel to it. I mulled it over on my own and then asked around the Internet and found the top ten places in WoW you should see. I took some of the screencaps and some were found on Wowhead.
10. Utgarde Keep
Utgarde Keep is one of the first places you see in Northrend (if you go the Howling Fjord route). It’s big, imposing, and kind of terrifying at first glance. Then you find out it’s filled with a bunch of crazy people who worship the Lich King. Great.
9. Ahn’Qiraj
These are the two Ahn’Qiraj raids as of Cataclysm. They are deserted when you fly above them (the raids are still packed with mobs), possibly because we destroyed them. It’s creepy to see a whole zone deserted like this. Especially when you see the moving parts.
8. Vortex Pinnacle
A new 5-man dungeon located above Uldum. It’s part of the Skywall and has dropped down far enough so we can see it, which I think we should all be thankful for. It has an Arabian feel to it, much like the rest of Uldum, and is absolutely gorgeous.
7. Vashj’ir
Vashj’ir is one of the new 80-82 leveling zones in Cataclysm. It is a long, underwater zone that is broken up into three smaller zones. Each zone has its own look, from old Elven ruins to deep underwater lights. It might be a pain to level in, but at least the ever-changing scenery will keep you engaged.
6. Firelands
Firelands is the brand-new raid instance for Cataclysm. It’s the home of Ragnaros and all of his minions. As the name implies, it is filled with fire. There isn’t a lot of scenery (besides fire), but Ragnaros’s castle is beautiful to look at. If you can get in here, you should do so.
5. The Dark Portal
The Dark Portal has always been in WoW, but was never used until Burning Crusade. Now it’s part of outdated content, but it still amazing to look at, especially from the Hellfire Peninsula side.
4. Deepholm
Deepholm is one of the new leveling zones and how you get there is just as awesome as the area itself. At first, it doesn’t look like much, just lots of grey and stone. Then one of the pillars flies apart and comes back together. Once you reach Therazane’s Throne, you can see all the beauty of Deepholm.
3. Nagrand
When I was asking for places people should see, almost everyone said Nagrand. They are right. At first glance, it’s nothing more than a green, hilly zone filled with animals to kill for Hemet Nesingwary, but once you can fly around the zone, you can see how awesome it is. Filled with floating islands that have waterfalls coming off the sides, the zone is a must see.
2. Ulduar
Many call Ulduar their favorite raid of Wrath of the Lich King. It is a long raid, filled with many bosses, but it also has some of the most amazing architecture of all the raids. There is a room filled with ice, a room filled with plants, and even a train room. Ulduar still has some of the most gorgeous looking rooms in the whole game.
1. Karazhan
Karazhan was the most mentioned place that people should visit when I was asking around. Everyone seems to love and adore it. It came out in late Burning Crusade, right before Wrath of the Lich King. Kara is an fantastic place filled with lore and confusion. There are two dragon fights, a opera house fight, and even a fight with chess. Much like the TARDIS, Kara is bigger on the inside, as when you look at it from outside, there is no indication how many bosses you will fight and how big it is.
So, there it is. My list of the top ten places everyone who plays WoW should see as soon as possible. Do you have a different list? What is your favorite place in WoW that everyone needs to visit?
