World of Warcraft: Patch 4.3

Patch 4.3 dropped yesterday, so I thought I would go over some of the new features. Not only are there new heroic dungeons, a new raid, and other content, but there are also changes to old content. More information can be found here, on the WoW website. Spoilers for heroics, if you wanted to avoid them.

Much like the last heroics and raid of Wrath, the new heroics and raid in 4.3 build upon each other. It starts with End Time, continues in Well of Eternity, and ends in Hour of Twilight. Players are able to fight Queen Azshara in the past and even the Echo of numerous faction leaders, including Sylvanas Windrunner. The raid, called Dragon Soul, picks up after End Time and culminates in an epic battle with Deathwing.

Along with the new raid, there is the Raid Finder. At the moment, it’s only for 25-man, but it might be used for 10-mans later on. Raid Finder works like the Dungeon Finder does now, but it has its own loot table. Basically, you can use it to get better gear, but the gear isn’t as good as a non-Raid Finder 25 man. It’s a stepping-stone that many people are looking forward to.

Another thing people are looking forward to is Transmogrification. As I mentioned in previous articles, you can use Transmogging to change your current gear into another piece of gear. So if you don’t like the new Tier 13, you can change into Tier 1 or 7 or whatever you want. Along with Transmogging is Void Storage, where players would put all the gear they want to Transmog into. Both cost large amounts of gold, but not too much gold that even low level characters can’t own it relatively quickly.

The other major new event is Darkmoon Faire. The Faire has been in the game forever, but it was only a few days a month and it moved all over Azeroth and Outland. Now, the Faire has found a permanent home. It still seems as though it will only be once a month, but now it’s bigger and better than before. Players can play all kinds of mini games, purchase gear not available anywhere else, and much more.

Blizzard has said that this will be the last major patch for Cataclysm. That means there might be minor patches, either fixing any bugs that pop or setting things in motion for 5.0 and the Mists of Pandaria.
