The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy Web Series Review

I mentioned The New Adventures of Peter and Wendy a few months ago in another article. I finished watching season one last week and decided it was time to post a review. Peter Pan is not my favorite Disney movie; it made me afraid of someone coming in through my window at night. Luckily, I do not share that dislike for the EpicRobotTV production. The web series is fantastic. It’s definitely not for kids, though. It takes the story of a boy who won’t grow up and turns into a modern man child who refuses to become an adult.

Let me say first that the acting is what drew me to the series. I love Kyle Waters’s portrayal of Peter. He plays a slacker comic artist who sees no reason to leave Neverland. I can see a lot of people I know in his character. A lot of people find it hard to enter what people call the adult phase of life. As we pay off debt and buy houses, we often long for the carefree days of youth. He personifies this splendidly. Paula Rhodes is a great Wendy. I can see the cartoon and novel Wendy acting like her as an adult. Wendy has ambition and offers grown up advice in her vlog. She is a foil for Peter’s immaturity. The dynamic between the two is interesting to watch. Brennan Murray and Graham Kurtz are great in their respective roles as Michael and John. I will admit I am terribly fond of John. I especially enjoyed how he danced when he thought no one was watching. I also really enjoy Lovlee Carroll’s portrayal of Lily. I like the the thought of Tiger Lily as a business shark.

The storyline and the quality of the production is great. The writers took elements from J.M. Barrie’s tale and translated them into modern situations. Wendy was told to grow up and she is trying to. It’s just hard being surrounded by immature boys and growing up in a small town. The series has the right amount of drama. You have the romantic tension of Peter and Wendy and the jealousy of Tinkerbell and Lily is sprinkled throughout the show. We get the craziness of John and Michael to liven things up. The quality of the filming is great. I’ve watched a few web series with bad camera work and poorly written dialogue. The staff really put the work in to make the series entertaining and easy to watch.

Season one left off with a cliffhanger and a sense of satisfaction. The crew and cast are raising money to fund season two and three. I really hope there is. Check out the video below to learn how to help them with the fundraising campaign. I enjoyed this series and recommend to anyone looking for something great to watch on YouTube.
