Last week we learned that Sam Mendes would be returning to direct the next James Bond film, and today casting news has pegged Penelope Cruz as the new Bond girl for the movie. Cruz is an interesting choice for a couple of reasons. First is that her husband, Javier Bardem, played the villainous Silva in 2012’s Skyfall. Cruz will be the first Bond girl actress to be married to a Bond villain actor. Second is that she will be 40 when the next Bond film shoots, making her the oldest actress to play a Bond girl. The previous record holder was Honor Blackman, when she played Pussy Galore in Goldfinger at the age of 39. This twenty fourth Bond film is slated to start shooting next year.
