Just want to let the record show that I’ve never even seen a Twilight movie. The only reason I know about them is because they are a part of pop culture, and I’m addict for being in the know… Also, my grandma is in love with Jacob. But do I really need to have seen the movie to appreciate the score from Music From the Twilight Saga for Chamber Orchestra? This is when millions of tweens scream at me, “Yes!” At which time I would scream back, “No,” and continue on.
Breaking Dawn is the moment everyone’s been interested in from the start — Bella and Edward finally say “I do” and do the deed. This, along with the idea of a monster in Bella’s womb, implied to me that this score would be bone crushing crescendos and fast paced. It was more serene than anything. With titles that matched their softness like “Bella’s Lullaby” and “I Dreamt of Edward,” this is definitely a soundtrack to be appreciated by the older ladies swooning over the sparkly men of the night and the six-packed wolves.
It would appear that Kristen Stewart conducted a couple of the tracks herself, as they have the smell of angst and we all know how mad Ms. Stewart can be. Thankfully “Stuck Here Like Mom” and “Dinner With The Family” had more differentiation and depth than Stewart’s facial expressions and made them some of the best to listen to on the album.
Almost all the scores were short in nature, some being only a tad bit longer than a minute, but then there were others like “The Meadow” and “Marry Me Bella” that went on as long as a regular pop song — well, minus the words and the Gaga beats.
Besides being in shock that I was filling my ears with Twilight music, I had a bigger shocker when the last track began. The title alone was too good to be true, “How Bella Got Her Groove Back.” Being the odd man out in the “classical” sense with the play on title, it was a nice break from the more serious vibe the rest of the album had. The music was more upbeat and the title caused some laughs.
One can only wonder if the likes of Bach and Handel would have been Twilight fans, but as far as Music From the Twilight Saga for Chamber Orchestra goes, it’s well put together music that showcases more the emotions of the movie without the likes of hit makers like you’ll find on the mainstream Twilight soundtracks. And when that 14 year old girl is singing her heart out to that one, her mom who swears Edward will be hers one day can enjoy herself Music From the Twilight Saga for Chamber Orchestra.
