Last week I stumbled upon Cubeecraft.com, an awesome site with lots of easy to assemble paper toy recipes. If you’re not familiar with paper toys, they’re basically little people (or animals or sculptures or whatever you can build), constructed entirely from cutting and folding paper. It’s almost like a pop culture origami, minus the decades of painstaking learning.
I had seen photos of papercrafts like these on Flickr and elsewhere, but somehow I’d never considered using the medium to make characters from Star Wars, anime, and Marvel Comics. Enter Cubeecraft to set me on the right road. The site currently boasts more than 65 different characters, all of them assemblable with nothing more than your printer, some paper, and some scisscors. I never had attempted any paper crafts like these, but the Stormtrooper, Hellboy, and Liz Sherman above testify to the cool and attainable results of these things.
Go check it out, and keep an eye on the site for frequent new releases: Cubeecraft
