It’s been several years since photojournalist Frank “I covered wars, you know” West took on the undead in the Willamette shopping mall in Dead Rising. Dead Rising 2 is still a few weeks off from release, but if you have a Xbox 360 you can return to the carnage today! The series’ new hero, handyman Chuck Greene gets his introduction in a downloadable-only prequel to Dead Rising 2 called Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. This new, shorter game is available exclusively via Xbox Live for a surprisingly reasonable 400 Microsoft Points ($4.99) starting today.
In addition to bringing Chuck into the story, Case Zero also features a number of new gameplay elements that will be new for Dead Rising 2. You’ll get to play with the new weapons building mechanics (chainsaws tied to a motorcycle, anybody?), and you’ll also face off against the new “psycho” boss fights. As an added bonus, character progress you make in Case Zero will carry over into Dead Rising 2 once it releases on September 28. You can raise Chuck and his abilities up to a maximum of level five in this mini-game, and there also are a number of unique outfits and combo cards available in advance.
