Buffy and Angel are still working their way through the Hellmouth and learning that Dru’s not the mastermind behind all the destruction after all. New revelations come to light and some hints are dropped about how this canon could turn out differently from the one we knew before.

Note: This recap may contain spoilers!

Chained up and out of her mind, Dru’s recounting the evil that has permeated our world and her own hunger that needs to be sated. She will devour the world and all its inhabitants. However, it’s clear that Dru is not in control of herself and Angel recognizes that. Something else is pulling the strings, but what? Dru just calls her the Hellmother. But that’s not the only revelation she makes. Through her ramblings, Buffy learns that not only does Dru know her companion, Angelus, but also that he was there to witness Dru trying to turn Xander. This does not sit well with Buffy and that’s when the Hellmother makes her move, ready to attack and gain the blood and the vessel for her plans.

Dispersed and separated, Angel and Buffy take their own paths in escape. Buffy is paired with Dru, who warns her that she’s out of her depth. And then she shows Buffy a glimpse of the Hellmother’s army, which includes Giles and Xander doing her bidding. Buffy doesn’t want to believe it’s real, nor can it come true, but she’s got to ensure that her friends and family will remain safe. So, Buffy strikes a deal with Dru, freeing her from her chains. They’ll go find Angel and then Dru will tell them all about the Hellmother.

Meanwhile, Angel has found a Hellmouth hut with a monster stirring his cauldron. The monster, Augie, is an oracle and he can see that Angel wants to be human again. He knows how Angel can achieve that, but it won’t be pleasant. Later, Angel hears some noises outside the hut and urges Augie to get to safety while Angel attacks the monsters and literally tears them apart. That’s when Buffy comes upon him, vamped out and covered in blood. Her only friend in the Hellmouth is a vampire. What a twist!

I’m interested to see how Buffy deals with Angel now, or if the vampire can convince her to still continue on with their partnership in order to deal with the Hellmouth and its repercussions. I’m also wondering how Dru will fit into all this, because she was outside the hut when Augie was explaining about Angel regaining his humanity. Lots of questions and lots of possibilities!
