Geeky Christmas Songs for 2014

It’s Christmas time again, which means it’s time to finally listen to all of the songs I’ve acquired since I released last year’s list. It’s weird how many Christmas songs I encounter throughout the year that I always feel compelled to save until after Thanksgiving. But now you can enjoy them, too!

MST3K – “Merry Christmas – If That’s OK”

During this holiday time of year, let’s not forget that not everyone celebrates Christmas. And that’s OK.

Debs & Errol – “The Hogswatch Song”

I’ve actually only watched Hogfather, so a few of these references go over my head, but I can still appreciate it nonetheless. Plus it makes me want to actually read the book (after the nineteen before it, of course).

dot.darkness – “2 Day Shipping”

This is exactly how I prefer to shop at Christmas. It’s an introvert’s dream!

Kari Maaren – “It Must Be Krampus”

I’m with Kari on this: Why don’t we North Americans include Krampus in our celebrations of Christmas? He’s such a great mythological figure. Here’s hoping this song helps bring him to us!

AAIIEE – “Krampus Is an Evil Man”

Speaking of Krampus… he does kinda look like Gene Simmons…

melodysheep – “Holiday Emergency” (NSFW)

It was only a matter of time before melodysheep got around to remixing a Christmas movie. And he picked Christmas Vacation. Good choice!

Paul and Storm – “Holidays Song” (NSFW)

Here’s a rather different take on the holiday season from Paul and Storm from last year’s “Cards Against Humanity’s 12 Days of Holiday Bull****” and also included on their new album. Um, yeah… oh, also be sure to check out this year’s song as well as part one of their “Nondenominational Perennial Holiday Special.”

The Doubleclicks – “Sexist Bull****” (NSFW)

Speaking of Cards Against Humanity, here are The Doubleclicks with their entry for this year. I hope they can get their Christmas wish!

Kirby Krackle – “Nerd Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”

This pretty much describes exactly what I like to do at Christmas time. Well, maybe not the Bronies part, but still…

Marian Call – “Christmas in L.A. (Yippee-Ki-Yay)” (NSFW)

Last year I featured Scott Barkan’s tribute to Die Hard; this year Marian Call also released a song inspired by one of the best traditional Christmas movies.

Milk Carton Superstars – “Christmas Isn’t Just for Christians Anymore”

I couldn’t agree more!

Mikey Mason – “Santa Goes Trick or Treating”

Halloween is too early for Christmas songs, and Christmas is too late for Halloween songs, so Mikey Mason attempts the impossible and releases a song that fits both holidays!

Frenchy and the Punk – “Halloween for Christmas”

Well, OK, maybe it’s not that impossible to unite the two holidays: Steampunk band Frenchy and the Punk prefer Halloween to Christmas, so that’s what they want this year — for Halloween to return again! I bet they must love Krampus!

Thom and Chrisbee – “Santa’s Beard”

It’s not a cover of the TMBG track of the same name, but it’s still pretty darn cool. And funky, of course!

Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer – “Do They Know It’s Chapmastime?” (NSFW)

This is mostly a cover of the Band Aid holiday classic, with a few lyrics tweaked here and there. Jolly good version!

James Covenant – “The Avengers Sing Christmas Carols”

I guess it’s now a holiday tradition that our favorite characters “sing” Christmas carols thanks to the work of James Covenant (who also did last year’s Star Trek: The Next Generation video). Love it!

D-Sisive – “Santa Baby” (NSFW)

This comes from an album called “Farty’s Oyster Barn Presents... Pass The Nog! D-Sisive Croons the Ol’ Christmas Classics at the Yuletide Jamboree [Digitally Remastered in Dolby Surround Sound]” and credits Geddy Lee, Cyndi Lauper, and Wynton Marsalis among others. So, yeah, it’s completely 100% serious… Or not…

Abney Park – “Steampunk Jingle Bells”

Exactly what it says on the tin. Enjoy!

Rush Coil – “Carol of the Bells”

I had a feeling when I looked at the track listing for the album this song comes from that this would make a great 8-bit track. And I was right. The rest of the album is pretty cool, too.

Aethernaut – “Snowball Fight Tonight”

This is a perfect song for an epic snowball fight. It almost makes me miss snow. Almost…

an0va – “Christmas Time Is Here”

An 8-bit rendition of the Charlie Brown Christmas classic. Nice!

K-Murdock – “A Christmas Story”

Kids these days just don’t understand what Christmas used to be like back in the day.

Lindby (featuring Doug Funnie) – “Christmas in Hyrule”

Oh, yeah, a parody of Run-D.M.C.’s “Christmas in Hollis”! Genius!

Three Ninjas & His Weird Old Tricks – “It’s an Agonizingly Slow Death”

A slightly less upbeat take on “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Or maybe I should say more realistic…

Devo Spice – “The Last Song on the Album”

Well, at least it’s the last song — so if you want to skip it, Devo won’t blame you…

AAIIEE, Abney Park, aethernaut, an0va, christmas, d-sisive, Debs & Errol, devo spice, dot.darkness, frenchy and the punk, James Covenant, k-murdock, Kari Maaren, Kirby Krackle, lindby, Lists, marian call, melodysheep, Mikey Mason, milk carton superstars, Mr. B, MST3K, Paul and Storm, rush coil, the doubleclicks, Thom and Chrisbee, Three Ninjas & His Weird Old Tricks
