A new year, a new set of music videos. You may also notice that I’ve decided to drop the “New” / “Recent” description. Since they aren’t always “new” or “recent,” I just figured they weren’t quite correct anyway so I might as well get rid of them.
For this list, I’ve included a farewell to a band that had all too brief a life, Claire and the Potatoes, who played their last show on Nov. 12, 2014 (fortunately, however, the show was recorded and can be found on YouTube). There’s also new and old artists, and one with a “new” name. Let’s get to them now!
“I Wanna Be Your Shadow” – Claire and the Potatoes
Yeah, I know I featured this when I reviewed the album, but it seemed odd not to include it since it’s the first part of a story. So here it is again.
“It’s a Beautiful Day” – Claire and the Potatoes
And picking up where part one left off is the continuation of Claire’s story.
“A Shot at Love” – Claire and the Potatoes
Finally, part three concludes the story… Or does it? (Well, yes, since the band has now broken up, but still…)
“Tour Announcement” – Claire and the Potatoes
Wrapping up our mini-tribute is a live version of the final song from the album. Unfortunately, it isn’t an actual tour announcement. So, Claire and the Potatoes may not be touring, or putting together any more music, but at least they did leave us this: “The Final Single.”
“Rock the Mic” – Ultra Magnus & DJ SLAM! (Feat. M.O. Littles & Dynamic)
Man, I’m always blown away by the quality of the stuff that comes out of Canada! I’d be tempted to move up there if it weren’t so cold in the winter! Anyway, this is the first single from the debut album by Ultra Magnus & DJ SLAM! I’m definitely looking forward to hearing it in February.
“City’s Fall” – Sulfur
TMNT plus Wu Tang. With vocals by Sulfur. Of course I’m in! This is part of Sulfur’s newest mixtape, Enter the 36th Chamber. Go grab the whole thing if you’re a fan of any part of that combination!
“Vegetables” – Mr. B The Gentleman Selector
So now Mr. B has invented chapstep / acid ragtime for this side project. And I’m perfectly OK with that.
“Shudders” – MC Frontalot
This video from Front’s Question Bedtime retells the story of “The Youth Who Went Forth To Learn Fear.” He’s never known “shudders” before, until he meets a certain someone…
“Make Me Fade” – K. Flay
This is probably my favorite track from K. Flay’s Life as a Dog. I love the flow and the mellow beat. If you haven’t checked out the album, you really should. It’s great stuff!
“1999 (Remix)” – Crayondroids
Combining images from the original video, the 1989 version of Batman, psychedelic images, and various pop culture clips, this video screams “end of the world”. And the remix of the song is just awesome, as you’d expect with anything from DJ RoboRob.
Well, it seems that “Rock the Mic” is the second single from Ultra Magnus & DJ SLAM! Here’s the first:
