Every week I feature a particular character, franchise, or fandom in Fan Art Friday, and I get to spotlight creative works inspired by particular source material. That feature post lends itself well to showing off fannish creativity as applied to particular subjects, but it isn’t the greatest showcase when I want to highlight a particular art style. That’s where I like to exploit the Fandom Tumblr of the Week from time to time, as I’m doing this week with a particularly awesome Steampunk blog.

Theme or gimmick: Lots and lots of fantastic art and fashion styled after Steampunk
When it started: July 5, 2013 (this is a new one!)
Why it’s great: Steampunk has been around for a while now, and it’s become one of the most consistently enduring styles that has deep roots in the fandom community. Proudly representing a fantastical collision between science fiction and the Victorian era, Steampunk lends itself well to everything from stylized gadgetry to clothing to fan art. Steampunk Art is a new blog that just launched last week but already is shaping up to be a must-follow if you want daily doses of cool stuff in your Tumblr feed.
