You might have noticed, between many of these featured Tumblrs and our weekly Fan Art Friday features, that we dig geeky artwork around here. Usually the art we feature is created as a standalone product that pays homage to the original, but this week’s featured Tumblr is all about finding beauty at the video gaming source.
Fandom(s): Video games
Theme or gimmick: An ongoing collection of artistic high res screenshots from assorted video games
When it started: December 30, 2011
Tumblr intro: “Screencap all the things!!!!”
Why it’s great: The advent of 3D video gaming introduced all sorts of new graphical possibilities and gameplay mechanics. One of the most obvious additions 3D brought to gaming is the realization of actual, natural, traversable worlds within the games. Many of us just run through the levels, but folks like JL Briggs like to stop and check out the scenery, and sometimes that can make all the difference. For the past few years he’s been screencapping breathtaking shots from within games ranging from Skyrim to BioShock: Infinite, and he never fails to find something startling, surprising, or beautiful in the midst of all those polygons.
