I tried to hold back writing about this crush. But, he kept popping into my head every time I was thinking about characters this week. I remember the first episode of Arrow I watched. I think I recall drool dripping down onto the floor of my Japanese apartment. Such a magnificent man… Oh, yes, the show is great too. So, this week I finally give homage to the crush that makes me swoon on Wednesday nights.

Stats:

Full Name: Oliver Jonas Queen
Age: 28
Occupation: Vigilante, Businessman

Who is He?

Oliver Queen is known as the Green Arrow. He is a creation of DC comics and first appeared in 1941. He is a vigilante, good with a bow and determined to save his city. When he is not shooting arrows at bad guys he is a billionaire playboy. On the CW show, he is played by the gorgeous Stephen Amell.

Fun Facts:

  1. Barry Allen (The Flash) gave Arrow his famous green mask to wear after insulting his makeup.
  2. Oliver uses multiple arrows such as incendiary, grappling, and customized piercing arrows.
  3. Oliver picked up Mandarin Chinese on the Island and speaks it perfectly.
  4. That star shaped tattoo on Oliver’s chest means he is affiliated with the Bratva — the Russian Mafia.
  5. Stephen Amell’s first acting gig was on the US version of Queer As Folk.

Who So Crushworthy?

This could easily be an ode to Oliver Queen’s (Stephen’s) abs. They are glorious to behold. Actually, all of him is spectacularly good looking. It’s almost painful. Anyways, I will do my best to stay away from that. I really do like Oliver’s character. He does the arrogant billionaire and butt-kicking vigilante things superbly. He has to make hard choices to keep both those lives separate. He has to lie to his family and hide from his friends. Some choices have led to him making mistakes; yet, those choices brought him Diggle, Felicity, and Roy. He wasn’t alone in his cause anymore. He goes through many changes that make his character evolve, too. Arrow didn’t have a problem with killing until his friend Tommy died. Now he’s determined not to kill anymore. He became more like Batman.

I really enjoy watching his fight scenes in Arrow. I’ve had a fascination with the bow since I was a teenager. Arrow just knows how to make battling in a green hood look awesome. Honestly, the biggest draw about Oliver is that he went from being a spoiled brat to a hero. The death of his father was the thing that finally made him grow out of being an overgrown child. He had a mission to carry out and he would give his life for it. I am a total sucker for characters like him. The way he really cares about his family and team are also great. He really would do anything for them. To save his sister, he revealed himself to Roy. He gave his trust to him. It’s like he grows a little with each episode. The vigilante doesn’t remain static. I, for one, look forward to seeing more of Oliver Queen’s evolution in the future. Along with shirtless scenes. Those are great.
