Gotham, Fox’s Batman prequel series, is set to debut in the fall, and today another cast member has been added into the mix. Previously we knew that actor Robin Taylor would be taking on the role of villainous Gothamite Oswald Cobblepot, also known as the Penguin. Today we know that the Penguin’s mom, Gertrud Kabelput, will be played by Emmy winning actress Carol Kane. Kane likely is best known as Simka Dahblitz-Gravas on Taxi, the show where she garnered her Emmy, but more recently she’s been on stage as Madame Morrible in Wicked. DC fans will recall that Oswald’s mom is instrumental in the origins of the Penguin in the comics, but there’s not word about how significant a role she will play in his turn to the strange side of crime on the TV show.
