Captain Midnight is back in issue 10 and he’s going after his old friend, Chuck Ramsey. I started reading Captain Midnight and comparing him to Captain America, and I feel it’s easy to do that here as well. Both Captains have to go after an old friend, Chuck and Bucky. We all know how Captain America dealt with Bucky, so it’ll be interesting to see how the showdown between Midnight and Chuck turns out, especially with Helios running around on Chuck’s side.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
The group comes up with a plan to get in to see Chuck, which is basically to walk through the front door. It works surprisingly well as Midnight, Charlotte, and Jones don’t even have to fight the guards that surround them. However, we finally see Chuck, an old man in a futuristic wheelchair and with a gold or gold plated metal hand. Chuck shows the three of them around and says that he’s been watching this whole time and even feeding them information.
Albright Technology had been working on fusing alien and human technology and Chuck has carried on that legacy, but has twisted it. Chuck’s used it to make an army of robots and every other kind of weapon. He wants to use it to have him and his company become unstoppable. As the trio argue with Chuck, he calls in Helios. Rick also makes an appearance and the fight really begins. There are two good twists or surprising moments in the last few pages of the issue, and I don’t want to spoil them. What you do need to know is that Midnight has lost faith in Chuck and even goes so far to say he’s disappointed in his old friend. The issue ends with Helios and Midnight fighting against each other.
I thought this was a good issue. As I said, there are some really interesting twists that I don’t think some people will expect. It was also interesting to see how Chuck has changed from when Midnight knew him. Chuck probably started out really wanting to make the world a better place or have enough resources when Midnight came back, but his vision got twisted around into something evil. He doesn’t even see how wrong he is. The fight between Helios and Midnight (which is a great metaphor) will be interesting to see because Helios uses all of Midnight’s tech. It will also be interesting what happens to Chuck and if he becomes a greater threat to the team.
