Dru has arrived on the scene and she’s just as crazy-dangerous as ever. Putting the fear in Spike and threatening the Scooby gang’s safety, it’s going to take all their focus to defeat Dru.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Picking up from last issue, Spike still doesn’t want to go inside and face off against Dru. Buffy starts taking on Dru’s guards while Faith stays outside getting the full story. That’s when Spike admits that he loved Dru, but she didn’t love him back. Didn’t even respect him. That’s why the way Tony was treating Xander hit a little close to home. But as much as he doesn’t want to go inside, he knows that he has to do it.
Spike says he will face off against Dru while Buffy and Faith try to find Baby Crab. This might not be the best idea, but it’s the only one they have at the moment. And then we get the tense reunion between the old lovers, though Dru has not lost any of her insanity or danger during her absence. She returned from Berlin because she heard rumors that all three Slayers were in Sunnydale. The truths of what went down with all the monsters the Slayers killed have been warped, but it’s fueled Dru to come back and retaliate.
Dru says she has been getting therapy, working on herself. She claims the relationship she had with Spike was codependent, him always wanting to be her savior. But now she’s ready to take control of her life. Her plan is simple. If she can kill two Slayers at once, she believes she can become the Queen of Hell. And if she keeps the third incapacitated, no new Slayers will emerge. Seems like a straightforward plan that may be impossible for anyone but Dru. Never underestimate her.
Meanwhile, Buffy and Faith still haven’t found Baby Crab. The whole tense situation between Buffy and Giles remains unresolved, but there will be time for that later. They’ve got work to do in the immediacy, including saving Spike. They start hearing him yell as Dru tortures him, but when they find him he is alone, tied up and strung from the ceiling. They get him down and he says he sent Dru to the Magic Shop, though that might have been a mistake since that’s where Willow, Tara, Giles, and Xander are.
Over at the shop, the four are unaware of the danger that is closing in on them. All Tara knows is that they need to release some of the tension and stress that has been building up. She convinces Giles to join them to do a spell to focus on something they love. Giles sees the team, Willow and Tara see each other, and Xander sees Spike, though the vampire looks tense. It’s through this connection that Spike is able to warn them to run and escape. While they try, they are trapped in by Dru’s minions before she makes her entrance.
And that’s where we leave the story. Will Spike, Buffy, and Faith arrive in time to help their friends? Will Dru prevail in her plan? And will we ever see Baby Crab again? Many questions left unanswered. Until next time!
