We kick off a new series featuring Willow, as she navigates the intricacies of life post-Hellmouth. She is lost and wandering, but trouble seems to find her regardless of whether she’s ready for it or not.

Willow is at a loss as to how to convey what she’s feeling, so she composes a letter to an anonymous person to detail what life has been like for her since she left Sunnydale. She’s been changed by the events of going to Hell and losing Xander. Thinking that getting away was the answer, she went to study abroad in England, but found that she felt just as lost there as she did in Sunnydale. Even the witches in England didn’t bring her peace or acceptance.
Heading back home wasn’t the answer either. As soon as she arrived, she realized she couldn’t stay. Instead, she emptied her bank account and got a one-way bus ticket to wherever her cash would take her. A good plan in theory, but not in application. At one stop, the bus left her, so she was on her own with no cell signal and left to fend for herself. That’s when she wandered into a town called Abhainn and where she’s been composing the letter that surrounded the issue thus far.
It is in Abhainn that a mystery is going to unfold for her, though she doesn’t know it yet. In the diner where she’s stopped, she’s overtaken by visions and a strange white-haired woman appears in front of her. She says her name is Aelara; a fellow witch who invited Willow to the bonfire at her estate the next night. Seems like a good omen, but perhaps not. We get a quick glimpse of a woman running through to woods, trying to escape a group, before switching back to Willow as she beds down at the inn for the night.
As the issue ends, we see the postcard Willow was writing disintegrate on her bedside table as she sleeps. That’s not going to be a good sign for anything to come! I am interested to see where this storyline takes Willow and if, at some point, she can find some peace with what happened to her and who she is. It’s going to be an interesting journey!
