In this cross-pond comedy of manners centered on issues of class and identity, a pair of English blue-bloods attempt to make the a very round American lass fit into a very square British hole. Jane Broadbent (Sandra Dee) has come of age, living in the states with her mother. Traveling to England to reconnect with her very English father (Rex Harrison) and his new bride (Kay Kendall) she soon finds herself thrust into the society spotlight thanks to the prodding of busy-body society matron Mabel Claremont (Angela Lansbury). Suddenly concerned with Jane’s social standing, insecure stepmother Sheila Broadbent is intent that she gets a match appropriate to her station. But Jane only has eyes for a lowly drummer (John Saxon).
