Sometimes, I’m just exhausted from the work week and my amour for fictional characters wanes a bit. So this week I decided to remind myself of my otaku past. I had crushes on so many anime characters. It was pretty ridiculous. Me, and a majority of my friends. To us, no real life boy could compare to our anime loves — unless it was a cute boy or girl dressed like our favorite anime characters. So, here is my list of crushworthy anime characters that I adored.
1. Heero Yuy, Gundam Wing
This character was paired with my original one in a seven-notebook fan fiction epic. Heero Yuy established my love of stoic characters with deep personalities. I even forgave him for the spandex shorts. It wasn’t his fault he was drawn that way.
2. Sakuya Ookochi, Sensual Phrase
My love of anime and Japanese rock merged in this manga/anime series. Sakuya was a hot rock singer who overcame a dark past. His love for Aine was the stuff dreams are made of.
3. Tasuki, Fushigi Yûgi
It really was hard to pick a favorite from the series, but Tasuki always had a place in my heart. I loved his fiery nature — and hair — and he was one of the most lighthearted characters in the series. He was just too adorable.
4. Sebastian Michaelis, Kuroshitsuji
Okay, I confess this one happened later in life. The demon butler was everything I love about an anti-hero. He was dark but not brooding. He was calm but dangerous. I could go on and on about Sebastian. Actually, I have on here!
5. Yuki Eiri, Gravitation
What is not to love about a scarred, brooding writer? One that looks like blond supermodel and acts like a crazy genius? Yuki needed Shuichi to bring light into his life. I loved Yuki so much that I spent too much at AWA on a Gravitation poster.
Honorable Mention:
My first anime crush of all time is Mamoru from Sailor Moon. His dashing mask and cape sparked my love of bishōnen for years to come. My friends and I adored his rose throwing and princely demeanor.
