I noticed a theme going on for the last two posts. I didn’t even realize I was doing it. I was featuring warriors against the supernatural evils of the world. They are fighting the good fight to keep evil monsters at bay. I decided to keep the theme going for October. Last year, I featured my favorite supernatural characters; now, it’s those who battle the things that go bump in the night. Next up, another one of my favorite Mortal Instruments characters. And for the sake of simplicity, I went with the name we first know him as.
Who is He?
Jace Wayland/Herondale/Lightwood is a Shadowhunter and one of the main protagonist in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. He is one the best Shadowhunters in history. He is the last descendant of the Herondale line and he is also imbued with powers from an angel. Jace walks on the dangerous side and will take on any demon in his path. He is also the main love interest of Clary Fray. He was played by Jamie Campbell-Bower (Camelot) in the live action movie.
Fun Fact
Jace has inherited two main things from the Herondale line: a star-shaped birthmark and a fear of ducks.
Why So Crushworthy?
What can I say? I have a weakness for arrogant, bad-ass characters like Jace. I honestly blame my anime crush on Heero Yuy for this. Jace is one tough cookie for one so young. He is a Shadowhunter par excellence and has no issues with telling you so. He also doesn’t have a problem with you acknowledging how handsome he is. Only Magnus Bane is immune to his charms. Jace is a bit of narcissist but he has many redeeming qualities. He is loyal and caring to his friends. He is very smart and actually has a deep streak of chivalry. Jim Butcher’s Harry Dresden blames his chivalrous streak for a lot of his problems. I don’t think Jace does.
Jace falling in love is extremely sweet. He has the Herondale heart. It’s one woman for life for them. All his charisma and lady charming pretty much ends after meeting Clary. He tries forgetting her when he thinks she’s his sister but he just keeps on loving her. One of my favorite things about characters like Jace is how much depth they have. I love seeing their inner selves come out. Jace has faced a lot of adversity. He finds a way to overcome it with love and digging deep into his strength. He isn’t the best Shadowhunter just because he can fight well. He is the best because of how strong his heart is.
Jace would probably say the above line is quite cheesy while gloating at the compliment.
