I have no problem posting details about this one, considering that everything is still in the rumor stage right now. Usually I don’t waste time with rumors, but this comes from multiple sources, and it’s about Doctor Who.
According to the sources, X-Files star Gillian Anderson is in negotiations to appear in the two-part Doctor Who special which will herald the end of David Tennant’s era as the wandering Time Lord. Rumors were already posted about the return of John Simm as The Master. What makes this one even tastier is the identity of the character Gillian Anderson is rumored to be in negotiations to play–The Rani, according to Telegraph.co.uk!
The Rani (pictured above played by Kate O’Mara) is a stellar villainess who first appeared in The Sixth Doctor story “The Mark of the Rani” and then subsequently appeared in The Seventh Doctor’s debut story “Time and the Rani.” The Rani is a Time Lady who was exiled from Gallifrey for her obscene genetic experiments. The Doctor found her during the Industrial Revolution, experimenting on mine workers. Despite only two appearances in the classic series, fans openly embraced the character. Ever since the series returned, fans have hoped The Rani would return.
Who knows? Perhaps Scully was a skeptic because she really was an alien all along.
Wha..? Seriously, Gillian Anderson as the Rani? Are they gonna pull another “Utopia” scheme? I am going to hold all my opinions until I see her onscreen battling against David and Matt as Doctors 10 & 11. But as of right now I am surprized and somewhat glad that they got such a legendary sci-fi actress to resurrect the evil Time Lady. I only have one concern, will she join Eric Roberts, the Master in the ’96 TV Movie and a fellow American actor playing an iconic Brittish Baddie, as a one story villianess or will Steven and Piers bring her back during Matt’s tenure as the Doctor? I guess we’ll have to wait until Christmas and 2010.
