The Mortal Instruments series has a number of great characters. I wrote about my love for Magnus earlier and Jem from The Infernal Devices. This character started out as the underdog but became one of the best in the series. I enjoyed following his journey throughout the books as much as I did Magnus’s. I was happy when he also got his happy ending. I mean, Cassandra Clare really puts you through the emotional wringer with her characters. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)

Who is He?
Simon is one of the main characters in Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments series. He first appears in City of Bones. He is the best friend of Clary and reluctant friend to the Shadowhunters. Simon spends a lot of time pining for Clary but eventually moves on. He has one bad drink at a party which leads to a series of events in which he becomes a day walking vampire. His journey in the shadow world only gets more dangerous from there. He was played by Robert Sheehan in the film.

- Simon met Clary when he was six and was in love with her for 10 years.
- Simon notices Jocelyn’s scars before Clary did.
- Simon is really good at archery.
- Jace’s blood gives Simon the ability to walk in the sun.
- Simon really loves to play Dungeon and Dragons.

Why So Crushworthy?
I am going to go out on a limb and say that Simon is one of true heroes of TMI. He saves the day too many times to count in each book. He does it because he is a good guy and doesn’t have any desire to be a hero. He would joke he is trying to impress the ladies when he does. Simon is a loyal friend. He always believes in doing the right thing — even if it means sacrificing himself. He even loses his memories for the sake of Clary and the Shadowhunters. Simon was a true Shadowhunter before he actually became one.
Simon would be someone I would have dated. He is very cute and nerdy. It’s a good combination. It’s said his looks get more impressive after he becomes a vampire. I think he was just great before. Simon would be a great boyfriend. Not only can you watch geeky movies with him but he can rescue you from demons and other unsavory beasts. Simon goes through a lot during the novels. He comes close to death many times. Simon retains his goodness and tries to remain himself throughout. He even spurns the company of other vampires in favor of his friends and plays with his human band. Simon weathers the changes in his life with a strong heart and an even stronger spirit.
