This issue of Mass Effect: Foundation is about Jacob Taylor and Miranda Lawson and centers mainly how Jacob came to work for Cerberus and the hunt for Commander Shepard. They are looking for Shepard’s body in the Terminus System, where the body seems to be passed around from one person to another.
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
It opens with a young girl, Lakshmi, trying to get some food. After some time, a Batarian asks her where her uncle is, as her uncle is a part of a gang. The gang that Lakshmi’s uncle is a part of is holding Miranda hostage. This is a bad move for them, since Miranda is a good fighter. Meanwhile, Jacob is trying to find her, but Lakshmi saves him.
Lakshmi and her mother help Jacob, giving him weapons and healing him. Lakshmi eventually takes Jacob to where Miranda is being held. Jacob is able to save Miranda on his own, with the aid of a flash bang and some smoke. Together Jacob and Miranda rescue a group of people being held as slaves and manage to escape the gang hideout. Miranda is slightly disapproving of Jacob rescuing the people, but he says that’s part of his deal if he joins Cerberus.
Once again, the comic fills in details that were missing in the games. It just expands the world and characters, making both more interesting. The characterizations of both Jacob and Miranda are pretty spot on. The characters are believable as fitting into that world and the art is great. The splash page of Jacob is really nice to look at. It’s fantastic to see characters you grow to love in the games and learn about where they come from and how they evolved into the characters you love.
