This is pretty much a continuation of the previous list, but since it’s now September, it has a slightly different name (plus more videos since a few extras came to my attention since the last was published). Yay, naming conventions! Anyway, this week we have biology, a musical, chicken noodles, and black holes among the other cool stuff.
The Impossible Girl – “Animal” (video is slightly NSFW)
The second video from Kim Boekbinder’s science album gets more into biology. Actually, it gets more animalistic. It’s a simple video with some sexy, sexy people.
Nuclear Bubble Wrap – “Hulkulele”
The Hulk just wants to play the ukulele. All the other Avengers point and laugh because he always breaks them when he tries to play. But someone has a solution for him so he can be happy again. I think Amanda Palmer would approve.
Paul and Storm – “Write Like the Wind”
Paul and Storm run into a little trouble when they begin their song about Game of Thrones. A couple of rather notable people take some exception to their demands. Yeah, you’ve probably already seen it by now (actually, that’s a slightly different version from backstage), but it’s still wonderful.
Wolverine – The Musical!
A musical featuring a puppet Wolverine. Do I really need to say anything else?
Sci-Fried – “The Away Team”
“If you have a problem… if no one else can help… and if you can find them… maybe you can beam down… the Away Team.” And don’t forget the red shirts, of course! Excellent use of action figures in this video!
angrykirby – “Chicken Noodle Man” (originally from the Harmontown podcast)
If you haven’t heard Dan Harmon’s podcast, Harmontown, this will probably not make any sense whatsoever (and might even come across as racist). So go listen to the podcast, especially the live shows from earlier this year, then come back and check this out. Very funny stuff!
Jesse Dangerously (feat. The Mighty Rhino) – “A More Blessed Perfection” (NSFW)
“You never will conquer the champion.” And that champion is the Halifax Rap Legend himself, Jesse Dangerously. Great song that you can also download over on Bandcamp.
MC Lovely (feat. Vonnie V) – “Super Sonik Powers”
MC Lovely and a group of other lovely ladies use their “super sonik” powers to create a wonderfully fun video and song about, well, superpowers and the heroes who have them.
More or Les – “Brunch Again” (slightly NSFW lyrics)
Try brunch, you’ll like it! And you’ll be transformed! The guest appearances in the video just make this so wonderful. And if you haven’t yet checked out More or Les’s album, Mastication, you really should. You’ve heard of nerdcore; try foodcore! Aww, yeah! (Also, I have to give credit to Hand’Solo’s Thomas Quinlan over at Nerdcore Now for mentioning this and the two before it, which is how I found out about them).
melodysheep – “Monsters of the Cosmos”
Once again melodysheep’s Symphony of Science series brings us an autotuned exploration of a scientific idea. In this case, it’s black holes, the titular “Monsters of the Cosmos.” I’m a bit disappointed at the lack of mention of “spaghettification,” but it’s otherwise great as always!
Marc with a C – “Popular Music”
Of course Marc with a C’s video for the title track of his latest album would be very lo-fi. But since it’s from what will likely be the best album of the year, it’s still awesome!
The Men That Will Not Be Blamed for Nothing – “The Great Stink” (slightly NSFW)
I really love this Claymation depiction of Victorian Era London. Of course, what they’re doing to create the big stink is rather disgusting, but the song is good. Probably best not to be eating while watching this.
