One of Fandomania’s reader-favorite features has been Celeste’s Fandomestic series that spotlighted geeky excellence as translated into arts, crafts, and creativity. Fandomestic has been on hiatus for a while, and we’ve been yearning for something to scratch that nerdy-crafty itch. This week’s Fandom Tumblr comes to the rescue with an ongoing look into the craftiness of geeks.
Fandom Craftiness
Fandom(s): Various
Theme or gimmick: Every post is a photo of a fan-made physical creation that pays tribute to a beloved character or fandom.
When it started: February 20, 2012
Tumblr intro: “Seriously cool stuff by seriously cool people. Go on, DIY.”
Why it’s great: I’ve espoused my love for fan art here many times, and I’m going to do it again this week. There’s a special point on the Venn diagram of nerdity where fandom overlaps creativity, and the output of that subset can be every bit as enjoyable as (and often even more enjoyable than) the original source material that inspired it. Fandom Craftiness is a great repository for those sorts of creations, spotlighting everything from Pokémon necklaces to Adventure Time keychains.
