We’ve made it through 99 episodes of the Fandomania Podcast over the last couple of years, and today we’re looking back at the ten episodes that have had the most downloads to date. Obviously, older episodes have been around longer and might score some additional hits over newer ones, but it’s still interesting to see what titles and topics have brought the most listens.
10. Episode 85: Buffy Is a Harsh Mistress (March 15, 2010)
The #10 episode in this countdown features the first of two interviews on this list, both interestingly involving Joss Whedon-related people or projects. This one is with Georges Jeanty, the artist of Dark Horse’s Buffy Season 8 comic book.
9. Episode 74: 2009 Year End Wrap-Up (December 28, 2009)
Wrap-up episodes and specials always are popular, and this one was no exception as we talked about the best and worst movies, TV, comics, and games from 2009.
8. Episode 73: Invaded by Barbarians (December 21, 2009)
This episode is a memorable one, as we recorded it while Fandomania was under siege from fans of Robert E. Howard who took umbrage with an article we published about the writer’s life. Hilarity ensued.
7. Episode 61: James Bond in Hobbiton (September 28, 2009)
There was a lot of TV talk in this one, ranging from Dollhouse to Fringe to FlashForward. We also talked about the best horror movie of 2009, Paranormal Activity.
6. Episode 56: How to Put This Politely (August 24, 2009)
We recorded this episode just after I’d seen my favorite movie on 2009, so I was very hyped about Inglourious Basterds. The biggest topic of this episode, however, is all about professional convention photographers.
5. Episode 57: Ambusch! (August 31, 2009)
It’s no surprise that our interview with the awesome Buffy-alum duo of Amber Benson and Adam Busch would land this episode in the top 10. They chatted with us about their movie Drones, writing, and a certain rendition of the Macarena.
4. Episode 49: She’s a Big Fat Liar (July 6, 2009)
Proof that inflammatory titles are traffic gold! This episode has some True Blood talk, as well as discussion about China’s anti-gold farming stance for video games.
3. Episode 72: Everybody Has a Brain (December 14, 2009)
As fallacious as this episode’s title might be, it did bring in a lot of listeners to hear us talk about Dollhouse, Mass Effect 2‘s voice cast, and my first impressions of my then-new Playstation 3.
2. Episode 42: Life, the Universe, and Everything (May 18, 2009)
Sadly, we fail to deliver on the promising title of this episode, but we do have some good conversations about Lost and Fringe.
1. Episode 55: Sanford and Son Go to Space (August 17, 2009)
One of our most randomly titled episodes ended up being the one on top of the list. As intriguing as the concept of Redd Foxx as an astronaut might be, the big listening boost came from Joss Whedon fans directed here to check out Celeste’s theory about the super secret bad guy’s true identity in the Buffy comic book. As it turns out, she was wrong, but I maintain that her theory beats the actual plot on all fronts.
