Book Review: Wicked

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire

Move over, Dorthy, this isn’t your mother’s Wizard of Oz.  In fact from the beginning it doesn’t even look much like the Oz we grew up with at all.  Whether you grew up with the books by L. Frank Baum or the film adaptations, you’ll certainly recognize certain places and people, but you will be seeing them in a whole new light–a green one.  Wicked follows Elphaba, the green skinned and misunderstood young woman who eventually becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, from her childhood through her death at the hands of Dorothy.

Chuck Dixon and Mike S. Miller To Adapt Wheel Of Time

The previously announced Wheel of Time comic book adaptation, in production at Dabel Brothers and based on the bestselling epic fantasy novels by the late Robert Jordan, now has a creative team. Chuck Dixon will be writing the series with Mike S. Miller on art duties. Dixon is a longtime comics favorite, having helmed many Batman series throughout the 1990’s and creating the Birds of Prey team and comic book at DC. Miller is no stranger to adapting fantasy novels to comics, as he was the artist on George R. R. Martin’s Hedge Knight series, a spinoff story from the Song of Ice and Fire fantasy novel series.
