Frank Herbert’s epic sci-fi novel Dune is due for a new remake film from Paramount, this time sticking much closer to the source material than previous outings have done. Friday Night Lights creator Peter Berg was set to direct the new Dune until he left in October. That left a vacancy that Nicole Sperling reports has been filled by Pierre Morel, the director of Taken and cinematographer on a number of French films. Here’s hoping all goes well for this film, as Dune fans (and particularly Herbert fans) can be a passionate bunch.

I really like Peter Berg and think he’s a great director. Looking forward to this. Wasn’t the Sci-Fi Channel miniseries pretty faithful though?
