We previously have polled you, our loyal readers, to assemble your lists of the 100 Greatest Fictional Characters of All Time and the 100 Greatest Books of All Time. We had fantastic responses to both of those projects, and now we’re back with a brand new one!

With the help of our staff, our readers, game industry professionals, and fans around the world, Fandomania compiled a list of the 100 greatest video games of all time. Between August 30 and September 17, 2010, we collected top 10 lists through this website. Starting on September 20, we began posting the results as a countdown from 100. Every weekday we revealed five more of the video games. The week of October 18-22, we revealed the top five video games, one a day, all leading up to the number 1 greatest video game of all time.

What makes a game the “greatest video game of all time”? We asked that when you voted you considered the following factors:

How significant are the games? Did they further technology and genres or maybe even create their own?
How interesting are they? Are they well designed, and do they intrigue you? Do they stand the test of time?
How cool are they? Influence and craft aside, is it just plain fun to play these games?

What games were eligible? Any video game in existence was eligible for this list. We rolled all genres, platforms, and types into one for this one: arcade, shooters, RPGs, mobile games, everything! However, we did have one rule on this one:
