Episode: The Clone Wars 3.14 – “Witches of the Mist”
Original Air Date: January 21, 2011
Secrets revealed indeed.
News of Savage Oppress’s attack on the Jedi outpost last week has reached the Jedi Temple, and the council isn’t happy. It seems that in the time between the events of the previous episode and the current one, Oppress has managed to kill more Jedi and is building a reputation equal to his name.
So, to find out who this new assassin is, the council sends Obi-Wan and Anakin to Dathomir to track Oppress down and finish him. The council proceeds to explain the differences between the Dathomiran Iridonians and those from the native planet of Iridonia. The males who live on Dathomir are more a warrior class than most Iridonians, and choose to live apart and under the control of the Nightsisters. Mace Windu explains that this village is where Darth Maul was raised.
Meanwhile, Dooku begins training Oppress in the Dark Side, with his main teaching tool being force lightning. Oppress trains with a lightsaber very similar to Maul’s, and has his ass handed to him regularly by Dooku.
On Dathomir, the two Jedi first attempt to talk to the Iridonians, but are immediately attacked when they enter the village. Fending of the warriors, Obi-Wan and Anakin discover that Oppress was taken to the Nightsisters. On approaching the Nightsisters, the witches take them hostage and deliver the Jedi to Mother Talzin, who surprisingly aids the Jedi and tells them that Oppress has gone to Toydaria. As soon as the Jedi leave, however, Talzin calls in Ventress and tells her that it is time to put her plan to kill Dooku into action.
Obi-Wan and Anakin arrive on Toydaria just as Oppress is kidnapping King Katunnko. During the fight between them, Oppress accidentally kills Katunnko, then brings a hover platform down on the Jedi and makes his getaway with the king’s body, shoving the Jedi shuttle off the platform.
As Obi-Wan and Anakin pursue, Oppress is punished by Dooku for failing to bring the king in alive. Just as Dooku is about to deliver the killing blow, the door opens and Ventress appears. Dooku orders Oppress to kill Ventress, but the count then learns who Oppress truly serves, as a tap to the head brings back Oppress’s brainwashing and they both attack Dooku. However, during the battle, enough lightning blasts from Dooku cause Oppress to break free of the brainwashing and he begins to attack both his masters.
Dooku then flees, followed by Ventress. However, before Oppress can pursue them both, Obi-Wan and Anakin arrive to do battle with the new assassin. Dooku and Ventress continue their fight in the corridors below decks, while Oppress and the Jedi fight their way back to the hanger deck. Failing to kill Dooku yet again, Ventress escapes in a life pod. Dooku then contacts the droids and tells them to kill Oppress. Obi-Wan and Anakin then back off as the droids surround Oppress. Oppress then uses a massive force push to get them away and takes off in his ship. The Jedi quickly follow.
With nowhere to go, Oppress heads back to Dathomir, where Mother Talzin reveals a new teacher for the Iridonian, his own brother — Darth Maul!
Awesome episode. Good plot development, tons of fighting, some explanations, and a big, big reveal. The three-way Sith battle was an awesome thing to watch. At some times each one was going after a different person; at others, they teamed up do defeat each other. This is the treachery of the Sith at its finest.
Further, the idea that Maul survived his battle with Kenobi has been a part of extended universe lore for a while now, but this marks the first time that his survival has been mentioned in canon. It will be interesting to see if he’s half-cyborg as he was in the Star Wars: Visionaries comic.
Also, this marks another episode written by Katie Lucas, and I think she’s really got some good stuff. She’s written some of the most action-packed and intriguing episodes this season, and she may well outshine her dad as a writer.

Awsome episode! This is by far my favorite. And i want see Maul and Savage in season 4, fighting against Ventress (perhaps ketting killed), Dooku, Ahsoka, Anakin and Obi-Wan. I wonder if Maul has started his own Sith/Droid army.
