Top Five Dragon Slayers

With the release of the remastered Skyrim, dragon slaying has become cool again. I wanted to cover a new topic as well. Dragon slayers have a long tradition in our imaginations. St. George is one of the most famous historical dragon slayers in fiction. Dragon slayers protect villages from the ravages of fire breathing monsters. They are willing to face the threat alone with just a bow and arrows. The slayers on this list have defeated dragons and become legends in the fictional world.

1. The Dragonborn (Skyrim)

There is nothing like killing a dragon and absorbing its soul. The Dragonborn face the destiny of protecting the world from the threat of Alduin and win. Each using their mighty voice, they strike fear into the hearts of their enemies. A Dragonborn is Skyrim’s protector and ultimate dragon slayer.

2. Bard the Bowman (The Hobbit)

Bard is not the most epic name for the man who took down Smaug. With a single Black Arrow, he destroys the evil dragon. His skills with the bow were already legend before the events of The Hobbit. His brave deeds make him King of Dale and the savior of the town next to the Lonely Mountain.

3. Clarke Gannon (The Slayer Chronicles)

Female dragon slayers are just emerging as popular in fiction. Clarke hunts down rogue dragons that lost their humanity. She can take down several dragons at once if she plans it just right. Clarke uses her brains and her archery skills to take down her prey.

4. Natsu Dragneel (Fairy Tail)

Natsu was born of dragons and he knows how to take them down. Leading a band of dragon slayers, he keeps the world safe from harm. His magic is superior and his wit is just as good in defeating dragons. Natsu takes dragon slaying in anime to a whole new level.

5. Beowulf

Art by Paolo Puggioni

Beowulf is not the most moral person, but he is an expert in slaying beasts. Beowulf keeps his kingdom safe from the fire-breathing beasts that threaten it. Beowulf led the way for other writers to model their dragon slayers after him.

beowulf, fairy tail, Skyrim, the hobbit, The Slayer Chronicles

That is one of the many great things about books, games and movies. When you feel alone or need something to do and most importantly need to escape, they allow you to escape to your own little plain of oblivion(skyrim). So good job Mandi and good luck.
