Sometimes, you can have a show with a cool concept and an overall good cast, but it has that one character who pops up and makes you want to turn the show off. I have quite a few of those characters, actually. One character on this list actually ruined the whole show for me and I don’t watch it anymore. The picks on this list are mostly recent shows. Here is my hate list, folks!
1. The Red Queen, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland
Everything about this character makes me recoil in horror. Her strange looks, her acting, and her overuse of the word “darling” really get under my skin. I can’t name a single thing I like about the Red Queen. Even her humanizing moments with the Knave of Hearts cannot redeem her. They are trying to make her a redeemable evil queen like Regina but the writers failed miserably. Anytime she appears on screen I want to turn the show off.
2. Skye, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This show tried to pull off the cool hacker chick and failed miserably. She is no Claudia Donovan (Warehouse 13). She acts like a valley girl on her iPad. I think her hacking skills amount to doing a search on Google and that anyone one the team could replace her. She acts like a brat most of the time and I couldn’t stand her. She is a big reason why I no longer watch the show.
3. Henry, Once Upon a Time
I know it’s probably wrong to hate on a child character but I can’t help it. Henry’s character is just awful. His desire to be like his grandparents leads to a lot of trouble. He is usually found whining and moping about something. That incident with Peter Pan really set me off. He believes everything anyone tells him. Didn’t anyone teach him not to trust strangers? I haven’t been able to like Henry since season one.
4. John Bates, Downton Abbey
I’m rewatching all the seasons of Downton Abbey and I realize I still can’t stand this guy. When he isn’t working, he just stands around and stares creepily at everyone. He prefers to be secretive and allow other people to clear his name. I don’t see what Anna sees in him. They have terrible onscreen chemistry. I guess the show is trying to portray him as a tragic figure but he just gets under my skin… in a creepy crawly way.
5. Lady Jayne, Dracula
For a vampire hunter, she isn’t that smart. She really should have figured it out by now that Grayson is Dracula. She is too besotted to realize it. She tries to play this dominant femme fatale but it really falls short of being attractive. I am also really tired of seeing so much of cleavage. If that’s all the power she has then there is nothing special about her character at all.
Re: Bates… Don’t you mean “creepy CRAWLEY?” Har har har!
My issue with Henry isn’t that he makes childish mistakes, but that Jared Gilmore’s acting is so bland that it fails to draw me towards him as a character.
