The Internet set itself on fire this week when word trickled down from on high that the next Predator movie would be a reboot of the classic sci-fi franchise. Shane Black (Iron Man 3) is at the writing and directing helm of the upcoming movie, and rumor placed him in the unenviable position of remaking the film in his own vision. Not so, says Black via Collider! According to the article:
“Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” Black said he doesn’t like reboots generally, but can “really get behind inventive sequels”, noting that he likes “the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
So the new Predator movie will be a proper sequel that follows up on the established series canon instead of rolling back over the same material again. That should set some fan rage at ease until the next big and awful fandom rumor surfaces. Speaking of which, what’s Tom Cruise up to these days?
