Music video games have become the next step after iTunes in the evolution of music distribution, and Pearl Jam is embracing the new status quo by releasing their ninth album Backspacer in stores at the same time that it becomes available for download into Rock Band. Today Harmonix and MTV Games announced that the entirety of the album is coming to the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band on September 20, the same day Backspacer will be available in music stores. The downloadable release will be coming to Rock Band on the Wii on September 22 and then to the Playstation 3 on September 24.
The full album purchase will set you back 1440 Microsoft Points (or $17.99), while each individual song will be available for the standard 160 Microsoft Points ($1.99) each. But here’s an even better deal: Backspacer albums sold in Target stores will come with a unique code that will give you the full album Rock Band download for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 at no additional charge.
