It’s time once again to start thinking about FuMPFest. This year’s show will take place August 26 – 28 in the Chicago area. Given that it seems unlikely at this point that there will be any kind of Nerd Fest (though I haven’t completely given up hope yet), this may just be the biggest geek music event this year! It’s certainly the biggest comedy music event of the year.
Guests this year include several former podcast guests, including 2D6, Devo Spice, Dino-Mike, Megathruster (OK, technically that’s a future episode), and The Library Bards, in addition to Insane Ian as emcee and host. And as the title of this article states, Paul and Storm will be headlining. Man, this would have been a perfect year to go, but given that it’s the beginning of the school year for me, I just don’t see it happening.
Prices go up on May 15, 2016, so get on that quickly if you want to save a bit of money!

Today, The Funny Music Project, aka The FuMP, announces their third annual Funny Music Festival, known as FuMPFeST 2016, will be held at the Holiday Inn Chicago in Elk Grove Village, IL the weekend of August 26-28.
This year’s Guest of Honor is national touring comedy music act Paul and Storm, (Paul Sabourin and Greg “Storm” DiCostanzo) who have been writing and performing funny songs together for a long, long time, beginning with their stint together in a cappella band Da Vinci’s Notebook. They are co-founders and producers of the storied nerd variety show w00tstock (featuring a wide variety of celebrity guests including comedy music icons “Weird Al” Yankovic and Chris Hardwick of Hard N’ Phirm), creators of a musical webseries, “LearningTown”, which debuted on Felicia Day’s Geek & Sundry YouTube channel in January 2013. The duo also co-produces JoCo Cruise, a Caribbean cruise/concert festival for fans of internet musician Jonathan Coulton, which first sailed in 2011, they have had their guitar smashed by George R. R. Martin followed by a Neil Gaiman scolding, and their music has appeared on pretty much every type of media that exists. In 2013 their music was featured in Despicable Me 2, joining a long list of credits including the cartoon website Homestar Runner, web series The Guild and The Legend of Neil, “The Drew Carey Show”, Comedy Central, NPR’s Ask Me Another, the “Bob and Tom” syndicated morning radio show, and The Doctor Demento Show. Their fifth full-length CD, Ball Pit, was released in June 2014, and was the central item of the duo’s wildly successful Kickstarter campaign.
Other acts performing during the festival include acts familiar to fans of the Dr. Demento show and The FuMP including 2D6, Carrie Dahlby, Devo Spice, Dino-Mike, Megathruster, Rob Paravonian, Seamonkey, The Gothsicles, The Library Bards, Tim Cavanagh, Tom Smith, Worm Quartet, and Zack Shornick, and will once again be hosted and emcee’d by comedy music personality Insane Ian.
Events in the 3 day festival include comedy music concerts from all the acts, a Q&A and autograph session with the Guests of Honor, panels (such as the audience-participation-rich “Dumb Parody Ideas”), vendors, Live Podcast recordings, a video contest, movie screenings, and a concert from FuMP acts performing as they were known before they were “famous”.
Come join The FuMP for a full weekend of music, panels, and fun! A weekend all-access badge for FuMPFeST 2016 is just $40 until May 15th! That gets you into all the concerts, panels, special events, and everything else. Individual day passes are also available.
