Some games you just can’t help thinking about. I can’t quite say why but I’m in the mood for replaying some of my favorite games. Maybe it’s the Final Fantasy X and X-2 release in HD. But there is a game that I really want to get back into and it’s Suikoden. Suikoden was the first major RPG I ever played. I love it still. It inspired story ideas and characters for years. I still have my original copy but sadly it’s in poor shape. I have discovered it’s for sale on Playstation Network. My desire to acquire this game is very high. If you haven’t played it, you may ask, what makes this game great?
First, the storyline. It was vast, emotional, and well written. You would think it would be hard to write a decent plot with 108 companions — Stars of Destiny — wandering around. Actually, everyone got their own unique story. I love how the nameless Hero faces adversity and betrayal. I will never get over the Gremio death scene. I hated how short of a role the rebel Odessa had in the story. Her character still inspires me today. The game made me wish I lived in an RPG. The universe was vast and there was lots to explore. The runes system was really fun to play around with, too. The battle system is classic RPG. I had major crushes on Yuber, Flik, and Luc. It was hard to tell what they looked like in the game but I enjoyed their roles.
I think this song from the OST was a real sell for me, too. It seems to capture the essence of traveling vast worlds, fighting monsters, gaining loot…

As I said, I wore my disc out playing the game. I didn’t like the other games that followed as much. They didn’t take me on new flights of fancy after playing them. The graphics may have improved but I feel as though the other games paled in comparison. I recommend Suikoden to all gamers who want to play a classic RPG. I know for sure I want to go on the adventure again.
