Lee Cronin’s The Mummy arrived on Digital May 19, followed by 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD this week, on July 14. Written, directed, and executive produced by Lee Cronin, the filmmaker behind Evil Dead Rise, the film stars Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, and John Keville, the film offers a new take on one of horror’s most enduring monsters.
The story begins when the young daughter of a journalist vanishes without a trace in the desert. Eight years later, she suddenly returns home, but what should have been a miraculous reunion quickly becomes a terrifying ordeal. As the family struggles to understand what has happened, they uncover ancient forces and demonic rituals that transform their reunion into a fight for survival.
Rather than revisiting familiar mummy mythology, Cronin’s interpretation blends supernatural horror with family drama, drawing on Egyptian folklore while emphasizing practical effects, possession, and psychological terror. The result is a fresh take on the classic monster that leans heavily into suspense, gore, and unsettling atmosphere.
The home release includes an extensive collection of bonus features, including The Making of Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, A Bloody and Grotesque Spectacle, Possession and Ancient Demons, deleted scenes, and a feature-length audio commentary from Cronin that explores the film’s development and production.
