Karen Gillan, formerly Doctor Who‘s Amy Pond, is staying busy in her post-time travel life. A lot of casting news has been pouring out of Marvel Studios with many recognizable names joining the cast of Marvel’s next big thing, Guardians of the Galaxy. The most recent name to join the roster is Gillan, reportedly cast as a lead villain. The identity of that villain has yet to be revealed, but speculation is rampant. The Guardians of the Galaxy are a spacefaring team in Marvel Comics, so it stands to reason that the bad guys they will fight in the movie similarly will be cosmic in nature. The mad Titan Thanos already is established as an outer space Marvel movieverse villain, so it’s likely other outer space entities that join the story could be tied to him. The most notable female connected to Thanos in the comics is none other than Death incarnate. Could Karen Gillan’s new gig have her playing Death? It’s certainly a good possibility. Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014.
