The Fandom Tumblr of the Week feature is intended to share the best and geekiest side of Tumblr by putting our passions for video games, TV, movies, comics, and everything else fandomish on display. It’s a fact that not all of our geeky fandoms are fictional, though, and this week’s featured Tumblr blog goes where no Tumblr has gone before… into space!
Col. Chris Hadfield
Fandom(s): Space (“I’m in spaaaaaace!”)
Theme or gimmick: This is the personal Tumblr blog of Col. Chris Hadfield, an astronaut living on the International Space Station.
When it started: January 15, 2013
Tumblr intro: “Canadian Astronaut, currently living in space aboard ISS as Flight Engineer on Expedition 34, to be Commander of Expedition 35.”
Why it’s great: Col. Hadfield’s Tumblr is fantastic viewing both because it’s the first Tumblr regularly updated entirely from outer space and because the images included are breathtaking. Ever since the blog went online earlier this month, the astronaut who updates it has been making frequent and regular posts that largely are comprised of his photos taken of the Earth from the ISS. He’s brought us photos from space of everything from Toronto at night to a particularly twisty river to a mysterious, giant chess board in the Rockies. If you enjoy space, high altitude photography, or the marvel of our physical place in the universe, this is a blog you should check out.
