Video gaming is an international hobby, and by now it has spanned multiple generations. It’s clear that the passage of time and cultural differences have put their own unique stamps on gaming, and examining the differences between the years and locales can make for some interesting browsing. That’s where today’s Fandom Tumblr of the Week comes in!
Box Vs. Box
Fandom(s): Video games
Theme or gimmick: Each post compares a game box with a box for the same game or type of game, but from a different region or era.
When it started: April 6, 2012
Tumblr intro: “East Vs. West, Old Vs. New, Bad Vs. Rad!”
Why it’s great: Game box design is an art that goes largely unrecognized by the general public because of its purely commercial nature. There undeniably is a ton of fantastic box art out there, though, and Box Vs. Box is a celebration of the art form, as well as an exploration of how trends and representations have changed over time and how they differ around the world.
