Hi, there! I am finally back from hiatus to bring you another crushworthy offering. This crush dates back to when I was fifteen years old. I am a big fan of the Final Fantasy game series. I have also always been a fan of the stoic hero. So you can imagine that no video game hero was more appealing to me than Squall from Final Fantasy VIII at the time.
Stats:
Full name: Squall Leonhart
Age: 17
Occupation: SeeD mercenary, Balamb Garden commander
Who is He?
Squall is the main hero in Final Fantasy VIII. He first began as rising star student aspiring to be a SeeD mercenary. After becoming one, he discovered that a bigger battle was raging in the world than passing his exam. Squall was an angsty loner who gradually matured into less of a poster boy for teenage drama. He has also appeared in the Dissidia and Kingdom Hearts video games.
Fun Facts:
- Squall’s eyes change color, sometimes being blue or green in different screen shots.
- Kiros and Ward almost revealed to Squall that Laguna was his father aboard the Ragnarok.
- Did you know that the English voice of Squall in Kingdom Hearts was voiced by David Boreanaz of the Angel fame?
- Gackt, a famous J-pop singer, claimed Squall was modeled after him.
- Squall was born in August, which means he is a Leo.
Why So Crushworthy?
Squall was a total stud when I was fifteen and playing the game. Hey, I know the game came out in 1998 but I couldn’t afford games when they first released so I had to wait a while. I still have a great deal of fondness for Squall. He was a teenage kid that got thrown into a world-changing battle. Granted, he started the game as a jerk. He didn’t need friends! He was a tough cookie! As a teenager, I understood his feelings, so he didn’t annoy me very much. There is also the lovely thing called character development. He became the hero that world needed. He became strong and he learned to care about others. He was the Tin Man who found his heart and the Cowardly Lion who found his courage.
The romance Squall had with Rinoa was a little cheesy with the whole “I’ll be your knight” spiel. However, it was still very sweet. Rinoa brought out the good in Squall. He went all the way to space to save her. Not many men will do that for you. :) And when you’re fifteen and a girl, the romance gets right to you. I wanted my own Squall. I think it was cute how easily embarrassed he was. He tried his hardest to remain cool at all times. Squall was so admired he even had teachers hitting on him. I really hope we get an HD version of VIII on PSN. I would like to see hot Squall in high definition.
