So, I heard that Final Fantasy X and X-2 have been released in HD. Yes, I am very much interested in playing it but I have other expenses to be worried about at the moment. Also, I usually only play one game at a time and I am working on Thief. Thinking about Final Fantasy X makes me think about the characters in the game — and how I hated half of them. Seymour, Rikku at times, and Tidus when he laughed. Yet, one character stands at the top of my hate list. It is the blitzball-playing moron, Wakka.
Who is He?
Wakka is one of the main playable characters in Final Fantasy X. He thankfully only makes appearances in X-2. He is one of Yuna’s companions on her journey to defeat Sin. He helped look out for her like a big brother when she was growing up. In his spare time, he is an avid blitzball player and loudmouth.
Why So Cringeworthy?
Where do I even start? His voice, both Japanese and English versions, is like nails on a chalkboard for me. The Jamaican accent rip off was just terrible. I feel like covering my ears at the mere mention of it. Wakka walked around like a stoner, too. Tidus was off-the-wall enough. Wakka was terribly self-righteous, too. He thought he knew everything. He did take being a guardian seriously but he wasn’t as good as Lulu or Auron at it. He attacked with a blitzball, for pete’s sake. It was the most ridiculous weapon in the game. Even the gunblade was less crazy. I don’t think a ball would actually be much help against monsters.
His hair really got on my nerves. It was a complete Zell Dincht knockoff. He looked like a rooster walking around. I will never understand how Lulu could marry and have babies with him. Lulu was cool and sassy. I think Wakka must have hired a hypnotist. I remember being grossed out my first playthrough of X-2 when Lulu announced the impending spawn of Wakka was due. That man should not populate. Why did it happen?! Why?! Wakka never became a likable character for me. I am not sure if I can handle his antics in HD.
