In 2003 BBC developed an animated Doctor Who feature for the series’ 40th anniversary celebration. The animation starred Richard E. Grant as the voice of the Doctor in what could have been a continuation of Doctor Who if the 2005 live action revival had not overtaken it. The Scream of the Shalka, therefore, is a sort of alternate universe adventure in the Doctor Who mythos, and now that the 50th anniversary of the show is upon us BBC has released it as part of their ongoing classic Doctor Who DVD series.
