I love Dr. Who! My favorite moments are when the Doctor is truly suprised by something that he isn’t expecting.
Oh my gosh, my favorite Doctor Who moment is most likely in the first episode of the new series 4, when the Doctor and Donna are mouthing excitedly at each other from across a room and behind two windows! David Tennant is so DELIGHTFULLY angst-ridden during that whole episode! I also love the scene at the end of that episode where the Doctor says he just wants a mate, and Donna freaks out, “You just want TO MATE?!?! You’re not mating with ME, sunshine!!” Fantastic!
You know, I also love the moment in series 3 when the Doctor says that he used to have mercy, but now he doesn’t anymore. Also the part in series 2 when he BELIEVES in Rose Tyler! And contrary to the evidence presented here, I loved Christopher Eccleston too. :)
Oh, at the end of “The Family of Blood” when the Doctor/John Smith has to decide whether to stay or go. (Or maybe every moment in “The Girl in the Fireplace.”)
The best moment in my Doctor Who experience was watching the show for the first time on public television when I was a kid. Tom Baker was the Doctor working for UNIT when a giant robot threatens to squash everyone. The moment I remember most clearly was when the giant robot lifted its giant foot and revealed giant shoes hidden underneath. These obvious goofs simply entranced me.
My favorite moment takes place in “The Fires of Pompeii”. The safety of the entire planet required The Doctor to set into motion events which would while saving Earth, kill 20,000 people in the local area. It was an either/or situation, these 20,000 would have to die or not just they but everyone on the planet would die. Companion Donna Noble (how appropriately named!) laid her hands on the control lever next to his and pushed with him. She didn’t have to do that, he was going to take the pain of it all upon himself — but she showed true nobility of spirit in realizing what was necessary and took part of the burden from him. In one moment of moral responsibility she became the greatest companion ever to be on the program.
You want me to pick a favourite moment? Well, that’s going to be tough, for sure. I have to say it’s at the end of seasons two and three, when Donna appears in the TARDIS or the Titanic crashes through the walls, and all he says is, “What?! What?!” and then, in a totally flat, yet bewildered voice, “What.”
I’ll have to go back to the first episode of the new series, when the Doctor first met Rose. He says something like “Hi, I’m the Doctor. Now, please run for your life”. I might have become an instant fan right there,
WELL
