Ben-Hur arrives on Digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on February 17, marking the first time the 1959 epic will be available to purchase in 4K resolution. Directed by William Wyler and produced by Sam Zimbalist, the film stars Charlton Heston as Judah Ben-Hur alongside Jack Hawkins, Haya Harareet, Stephen Boyd, Hugh Griffith, Martha Scott, Cathy O’Donnell, and Sam Jaffe.
Adapted from Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of Christ and a remake of the 1925 silent film, the story follows Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish nobleman in Jerusalem whose life is upended when his former friend Messala, now a Roman official, accuses him of treason. What follows is a sweeping tale of betrayal, endurance, and redemption set against the backdrop of Roman-occupied Judea.
Winner of 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor for Heston, Ben-Hur remains one of the most celebrated films in Hollywood history. In 2004, it was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
The new release includes both newly produced and legacy bonus features, including Ben-Hur: Anatomy of an Epic, The Cinematography of Scale, multiple screen tests, a commentary track featuring Charlton Heston and film historian T. Gene Hatcher, and a music-only track highlighting Miklós Rózsa’s Academy Award-winning score.
Ben-Hur is available February 17 on Digital and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
