We have a lingering mystery and a lot of open-ended questions in this issue of the comic. I guess every plotline has to have filler once in a while. I just wish it wouldn’t happen so often in this series. Let’s tie together these stories and get some action going!
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
We start off the issue with two would-be muggers who think they have easy prey. They change their minds quickly when they find that their target is not quite human. And after the guy escapes being a victim in that crime, he gets involved in another dangerous encounter in the bar. Who is he? We are never told. He’s just used as a temptation, and a promise of something to come, before the story turns over to Angel and Amy, who are elsewhere in the same bar.
The two of them are talking about Amy’s wishes to learn about how Angel returned Giles to the land of the living. Instead of automatically turning her down, Angel listens as she makes her case as to why he should help her and she apparently was good enough to cause Angel not to instantly refuse her. Oh, this isn’t going to end well. Anytime we have partial agreement, it’s just a sure sign that bad things are on their way. And we later learn that Amy’s keeping tabs on Willow, so there’s the potential for this to become an even bigger mess.
Meanwhile, Faith is still leading her crew in the jungle. She seems to have everyone on board with her plans, all except the Major, but he soon falls into line, too. Faith’s just got that way about her, you know? They finally find the camp location, but everyone that’s been left there appears dead. Others are missing, including Riley. It’s up to the group to find out where they went and what happened to the ones left behind.
Faith has a momentary one-on-one with a fellow soldier, recounting her history with Riley, but before she can get in too deep, a perimeter flare goes off and they prepare to fight. They hold their own for a while, trying to take on the vampires, but soon start getting overrun. All hope seems lost, but then Sam shows up and starts taking out the vampires herself. Nice to see she’s not dead! And she also brings hope that the others are still alive, too. Sam wants the team to get to safety while she goes back to the prisoners in the village. Reese Zane is among them.
So, we’re mostly left with questions this time around. Who was the mysterious figure at the start? What is Amy up to? Can Angel keep the upper hand? And will Faith discover Riley’s still among the living? No answers yet, so we’ll have to wait and see how it all turns out.
