The struggle between Fred and Illyria’s control continues, as does the revelation of Eldre Koh’s backstory. And they are more intertwined than we first thought. Where might their storyline lead?
Note: This recap may contain spoilers!
Eldre Koh has come seeking information from Illyria. Too bad she’s not the prominent personality at the moment. Instead, Fred is in control and says she has no access to Illyria’s knowledge. She is also not willing to let Illyria out, not even for a moment, because she fears Illyria will once again take over permanently.
But how did Illyria lose her control in the first place? Well, Angel’s theory has to do with the Seed. When everything went down, he believes that the Seed reset everything, including Illyria and Fred. While this bodes well for Fred, it does nothing for Eldre Koh. If he can’t access Illyria’s knowledge, his journey has been for nothing. And we are treated to his backstory, the reason he’s been on this path of vengeance in the first place. And it’s quite a story.
He was going through the Yataro ritual, to become an elite fighter in his society. One part of this process was to be sent into the wilderness for thirty days, where he fought to survive and prove his worth. His month-long exclusion was achieved, but it came at a cost. When he returned home, he found it destroyed, his friends and family dead. If that wasn’t enough, the Overseer sets him up as the person responsible. Thus, he’s placed under arrest and banished to a special dungeon in a foreign dimension where he would be confined for all time. Thanks to the destruction of the Seed, however, he gained his freedom once again. And that freedom allowed him to set out, swearing revenge upon the person responsible for the destruction of his home.
But just as Eldre Koh is fighting his fight, so too is Fred. She fights to remain in control, though Illyria is pushing to emerge once again. And she’s also fighting to deal with the truth of what actually happened to Koh’s home. She lied to him when she said she didn’t know anything. In fact, she knows perfectly well, as it was Illyria who was responsible for killing everyone. What might Koh do when he finds this out, if he ever does? And how will Fred deal with Illyria and her past sins? The truth is bound to come out, and I fear the repercussions when they do. And I also fear Illyria, because she is too powerful to remain contained forever. Fred’s going to need all the help she can get.
