It’s a big week for Rock Band 4 fans, as Harmonix is presenting its much anticipated first big update to the game today. The company has presented the newest incarnation of the music game as a platform, rather than an incremental title in the series. As such, the folks at Harmonix will be issuing updates to Rock Band 4 throughout the life of the game, rather than releasing a Rock Band 5 in just a couple of years.
This week promises to make available within Rock Band 4 all the songs from the Rock Band 3 soundtrack, as long as you’ve exported that song list on your chosen game console line. Once the update goes live, you should be able to redownload your old Rock Band 3 music to your new Rock Band 4 game.
Also newly introduced with today’s update is a recently announced Brutal Mode that makes songs harder, the better you’re playing them, eventually just hiding the note track altogether. You can check out a video of this new mode below:
And finally, as usual, Harmonix is releasing a new set of downloadable songs this week. Today’s pack includes three metal numbers, available at $1.99 each. You can see the track list below and hear a sample of the songs in the following video:
- Between the Buried and Me – “The Coma Machine”
- Opeth – “Heir Apparent”
- Symphony X – “Nevermore”
